One is Enough

2 Questions:
1. Would you rather have one penny, or 1000 pennies?
2. Would you rather have one dollar, or 1000 dollars?

Silly, right? In this day and age, we know that a penny buys you… nothing. But a thousand pennies equals $10, which buys you a couple of fancy coffees or lunch. Even one dollar isn’t worth much today. But $1000 is significant. I’d certainly be happy with that!

Or, would I?

In today’s world, we think more is better. One dollar – or a thousand dollars? The majority of us would probably choose the latter. But having faith in Jesus means we have a much different perspective, don’t we?

This morning I was reading Psalm 84:10-11

“Better is ONE day in Your courts
than a thousand elsewhere; I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wicked. For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does He withhold from those whose walk is blameless.”

In this case – ONE IS MORE.

One is – enough.

It’s all we should long for. Merely one day in the presence of Jesus our precious Savior, is better than a thousand apart from Him.

Psalm 84:1-2 –

How lovely is Your dwelling place,
O Lord Almighty.
My soul yearns,
even faints for the courts of the Lord;
my heart and my flesh cry out
for the LIVING GOD!

Just ONE day. It makes a huge difference. January 12th, my wonderful, Godly father was airlifted to a hospital having a massive heart attack. ONE day changed his life, and all of our lives forever. That day could’ve ended very differently. Thank You, Lord that he survived it, and is getting better every day. One day – makes a difference.

Today, I just pray that we may be filled with the awe of knowing without a shadow of a doubt that WE are chosen by Him. We have been chosen to live and dwell with Him. To grapple with questions, and worries – and bring all of it to Him. To trust in His wisdom, and Spirit to lead and guide us. To give us peace and understanding. To see our world through His eyes, and not our own. To rest in the knowledge that just ONE day – today – is better with HIM than a thousand anywhere else without Him.

And then… do it again tomorrow. One day at a time. May each morning bring refreshing, knowing that we have yet one more day to walk with Him. To do the beautiful dance of life with Him. Not apart from Him.

Psalm 143_8 - Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love, for I have put my trust in you. Show me the way I should go, for to you I entrust my life.

God bless you – God be with you – may His joy be complete in each of you today, and every single day!

I Just Can’t…

Do you have days where you just literally feel like saying, “I just can’t…”.
Today, I feel pretty depleted of energy and joy. It’s been a tough week or so, since learning my friend’s battle with cancer is coming to an end. As I’ve sat with her, and prayed for her. and whispered the love of Jesus in her ear, I have truly felt the presence of our loving Heavenly Father in the room, in my heart, and I pray in her heart as well.
Amidst the sacredness of spending time with her as her life here with us comes to an end, there is also an emotional drain. Seeing her loved ones hurting, and the pained look on their faces as they watch their precious wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend fade away is so hard. I ache for them.
I am someone who FEELS a lot. Everything. Too much. I feel intense joy at times, and I feel intense pain at times. Last night, was a tough night of sleep for me. I had spent 4 hours with my friend, just being there in the quiet of her room. Sitting next to her on the bed, and stroking her arm or holding her hand. I woke up around 1:30am just replaying the evening in my head, and a heaviness woke with me this morning.
It’s been difficult to focus today at work. So, I decided to open up one of my devotionals I keep at work. For such a time as this.
Once again. God shows up.
Romans 12:12 – Be joyful in HOPE, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.
Ephesians 1:17-18 – May God give you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the HOPE to which He has called you, what are the riches of His glorious interitance in the saints.
Proverbs 23:18 – There is surely a future hope for you, and your HOPE will not be cut off.
Yet. HOPE.
Sometimes the circumstances in our lives, frankly, suck. Excuse me. But they do. Would you agree?
But, no matter the circumstances we find ourselves in – we are encouraged to not lose hope. We have a glorious and amazing inheritance in Jesus. We may go through momentary trials and tragedy, but in the light of eternity, it is but a breath.
Sometimes, we are so entrenched in a situation here on earth, that we only see the minute details. But God’s perspective is so much bigger, and He sees the BIG picture. And His perspective will never let us down. It is trustworthy.
Trust in God’s BIG picture for you today, and tomorrow, and the next day and the next… I’m clinging to that today, and I hope you will too!
Peace, love, and HOPE today and always.
